JMC presents this opéra-comique in two acts La fille du régiment, by Gaetano Donizetti, set to a libretto by Georges Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges and Jean-François Bayard. La fille du régiment is the first opera written in French by Donizetti and is a popular work in the French opera repertoire. This production is an adaptation with singers accompanied on the piano.
In the Tyrols, occupied by Napoleon I’s troops, Marie the vivandière is the object of true love for Tonio, a young Tyrolean ready to do anything to marry her. Adopted as a child by the Twenty-First, a renowned French regiment, Marie miraculously reconnects with her true family through her aunt, the Marquise of Berkenfield, who wishes to marry her to the Duke of Crakentorp.
