The Man in Black
A Tribute to Johnny Cash
Evenko |
Capitol Theatre
With his great physical resemblance, baritone voice and precise movements, Shawn Barker slips into the shoes of the original Man In Black and brings the personality and spirit of Johnny Cash, one of America's most iconic artists, to life in a one-of-a-kind show. The dynamic concert features Barker embodying the character throughout the evening, as he revisits each era of Cash's career with the audience, performing hits such as Folsom Prison Blues, I Walk The Line, A Boy Named Sue, Hurt and Ring of Fire, with a full band of musicians.
Shawn Barker's first Man In Black show took place in 2004 in a Niagara Falls Casino. Since then, he has performed over 1000 concerts in 12 countries, selling over half a million tickets in the process. Born and raised in a working-class suburb of St. Louis, Barker became interested in music at an early age, singing in church with his family. After serving his country in the army, Barker returned to Missouri and began working as a carpenter, spending his spare time learning how to play the guitar. He perfected the power and versatility of his voice by drawing inspiration from many legends - Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent. His performances, at first a mere hobby, eventually became a livelihood, but curiously, on his first tours, he imitated Elvis rather than Johnny Cash. That all changed when Barker auditioned for the role of Cash in a Hollywood production, and it became clear to the director and to Barker himself that he was born to play Johnny Cash. From that moment on, his path was clear.
