Fred Pellerin
Fred Pellerin is one of Quebec’s most celebrated storytellers, known for transforming the small village of Saint-Élie-de-Caxton into a living universe of legends, humour, and human observation. A graduate in literature from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, he turned an unexpected path into a remarkable career, building his work from the oral traditions he grew up with and the stories passed down by his family and community.
Over the past two decades, he has created a major body of work made up of acclaimed storytelling shows, each rooted in the characters and myths of his village, including Dans mon village, il y a belle Lurette…, Il faut prendre le taureau par les contes!, Comme une odeur de muscles, L’Arracheuse de temps, De peigne et de misère, Un village en trois dés, and La descente aux affaires. His first show alone toured extensively across Quebec and France, earning him major recognition early in his career and establishing him on the international Francophonie circuit with thousands of performances.
In his new show, he returns once again to Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, where reality and imagination constantly blur. When the village priest dies, a simple burial decision—inside or outside the cemetery fence—sparks three days of wake filled with debate, revelation, and unexpected truths. As always, the village itself becomes a chorus of voices, each carrying fragments of memory, rumour, and lived experience.
With humour, poetry, and a distinctive narrative voice, Fred Pellerin crafts a story where the ordinary becomes extraordinary, and where collective memory is reshaped in real time.
