Université de Moncton Opera Workshop
The Opera Workshop of the Music Department at the Université de Moncton, in collaboration with Productions L'Entrepôt and under the artistic direction of Professor Lisa Roy, presents Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel.
Hansel and Gretel, by Engelbert Humperdinck, is a work inspired by the Brothers Grimm fairy tale published in 1812. The story centers on a brother and sister living in poverty. Hungry, they venture into the forest where they meet a witch who will lead them into a series of trials and adventures.
This year's production marks Professor Lisa Roy's final artistic direction. After several years of passion and creativity, she is signing off with a final project that celebrates her commitment to musical training and the development of young opera artists before her retirement. It was with the opera Hänsel et Gretel that she began her career, when, for the first time in the opera workshop, all the roles were performed by students.
The work will be presented in French with English surtitles and can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages.
Directed by Karène Chiasson, Violette Guerlotte will be responsible for the set design. Jaël Aucoin will provide the piano accompaniment for the second year.
Singing students from the Mimi Musique studio, directed by Myriam Poitras-Dionne, will join as the gingerbread choir.
