The Capitol Theatre is thrilled to bring to the stage, in partnership with Tutta Musica Orchestra, the beautiful story of Matilda by storyteller Roald Dahl. This professional musical theatre production, graciously sponsored by FunTime Spas & Hot Tubs, will be presented at the Capitol Theatre from February 20 to 28.
Based on a book by Dennis Kelly with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, Matilda The Musical tells the story of Matilda Wormwood, a brilliant and telekinetic five-year-old schoolgirl, who uses her vibrant imagination, sharp mind, and playfulness to stand up to cruel adults.
Filled with humour, beautiful music, and scintillating dance, Matilda The Musical brings wonder, whimsy, moments of reflection, and a message of hope to audience members, young and old.
The musical opened on Broadway in 2013 and enjoyed great success with a five-year run, winning multiple Tony Awards.
Matilda The Musical marks the tenth chapter in this ongoing fairy-tale collaboration between Tutta Musica Orchestra and the Capitol Theatre. Since 2016, this partnership has brought to life magical productions such as The Sound of Music (twice!), Oliver!, Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast, The Wizard of Oz, The Little Mermaid, The Addams Family, and last year’s hit Shrek The Musical. Each show has been a storybook in its own right, inviting audiences to step beyond the ordinary and into the realm of wonder.
